Foliage Mod: Most Creative Design
Not one to toot my own horn, but the 5ThirtyOne Foliage Mod was recently awarded the “Most Creative Design” award for the WordPress 2.0 Theme Competition.
A quick overview of the WordPress 2.0 competition:
WordPress has a powerful theme system that allows the look and feel of any site to be changed with a single click. The WordPress 2.0 Theme Competition will highlight some of the most creative work of the WordPress community.
Being the first WordPress contest that I’ve entered, I am honored to even have recognition for a theme which *ahem* needs plenty of additional work. Congrats to the winners and enjoy your iPod Andy… Can you tell? I am a tad jealous.

According to the prize list: Most Creative Design – 12/month Web Hosting Package (valued at ~$100) – Donated by FreshlyPressed.net
How in God’s name did you not win? Some of those “winners” are atrocious!

That’s a pretty sweet prize, imho. Congratulations on your foilage mod winning, well deserved. (Marge Simpson: [annoyed] That’s what I said, “Foilage”.)
I think Andy may have gotten the edge with the color modifier feature. People tend to like the easy customization add-ons for a themes. I’m just theorizing…. =)
thats great derek. i thought you could easily win..
Congrats Derek; well deserved!

If and when the prize is actually delivered, I’m not even sure what I would do with it. Maybe a second site to flip? Andy’s win was well deserved. His use of Javascript throughout the site made it a more than honorable winner.

Thanks for the kudos guys.
I meant to comment on this earlier – nice work.
[...] See, you may remember that I entered the previous theme competition. You know the one, the one where the background #fff guy and theundersigned got stiffed because the judges didn’t feel like awarding two of the categories. They listed them as TBD, and then decided not to determine them after all. Which, if you’re talking about awarding prizes, makes sense. But as I can attest, and from talking to other winners, they weren’t. And I know I’m not the only one. Now, I didn’t enter with any intention of winning. And i’m not the sort to think that I should be making money designing on top off open-source software. If you’re not going to award prizes, though, you should at least give people the bragging rights. [...]
Hello, Derek.
I’m using Foliage Mod 1.02 as my WP theme. It’s great! I really like its simplicity. I hacked some parts of it for customization, though.
Well, I just wanna say you did a really great job there.
Keep the great work!
Sorry for the language, I’m from Indonesia.
