Sylviaaaaa has a new site to play with – sylvialoh.com

SylviaLoh.com

Taking a moment out of this years Chinese New Year, I’d like to announce a quick project created over the weekend – sylvialoh.com.

For longer than I can remember, I urged Syl to leave behind her Xanga roots pressing her to see the light of WordPress. Fortunately, I have finally managed to get her blogging on WordPress.

To be honest, I probably could have converted her much sooner had I had time to create a site that she would find appealing. Now to teach her what the quicktags do and proper formatting for post / images. I’m dreading having to teach her about comment & trackback spam. I’ll worry about that after I push her to get more content up.

Agreed Myles. The fact is, Syl will rarely update :( She’s not your typical content heavy blogger. I felt that presenting what few posts she did put up in a list format would work a little better. Not exactly something that I would use / recommend for anyone who writes lengthy posts on a regular basis.

  2. Myles says:

I personally don’t like the way the content is presented. The site looks great, but the content placement (everything in-line & packed together) makes it look a lot more confusing than it really is. Though maybe it’s just hiding the fact that there’s very little content on the page yet.

Wow! Great job Derek! The header image looks so pretty!

Btw, I saw that they asked you to be one of the judges of this year’s Philippine Blog Awards. I suggested your name to one of the organizers. :)

  4. Derek says:

Edward, I’m honored. Flattered to hear that some people are able to recognize something and associate it with myself. Thank you. ;)

  5. Turns out I missed this post somehow haha! I saw the design being featured in a couple css galleries and thought to myself… “that really looks like something Derek would make” and as it turns out, you did :P

You really have a great distinctive style. Nice work man, keep it up!

  6. TB says:

Very nice! I love your use of the (semi-)horizontal layout. You always make it look so good!

Derek, that design is the most amazing wordpress theme I have ever seen!

  8. Derek Reiff says:

Well, I just bought 3 moleskins (squared) on amazon… I hope they’re everything you say they are!

Oh, I love the design (wow) and especially the colour purple… But then again, I’m biased… my own blog is purple too.

  10. Derek says:

Purple was surprisingly fun to work with. Initially, I had a little trouble finding the best hues to work with but knowing Syl insisted on nothing but purple I knew I had to figure something out.

  11. Mike M. says:

Derek you are an artistic genius. I love everyone of your themes and use your October Special Theme for my own blog. If only every web designer was like you, then we won’t have trashy sites such as myspace.

  12. TB says:

How does MySpace’s design make it trashy? If you think it’s a trashy site, aren’t you considering it’s concept and not the aesthetics?

  13. Mike M. says:

from a design aspect the site is a mess. just look at the front page
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fmyspace.com&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline
no document type and 274 errors and 543 errors on tom’s profile. huh, what does that tell me? not only is it ugly, but myspace also has crappy design. on the other hand this page http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2F5thirtyone.com%2Farchives%2F766&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline
has 1 error and its just an unfinished tag.
