I had made plans for a proper break-down concerning the features, changes, and updates for Apple's latest feline incarnation - 10.5 Leopard. Ultimately, I decided that there had been far too many of those posts that I couldn't justify one of my own. Rather, I've decided - with proper motivation from a few individuals - to share what you all might find if allotted some one-on-one time with my computer(s).
A salute to 3rd party developers, you have all inspired Apple
Before I continue, I would like to take a few minutes to salute a handful of third party developers whose little application "babies" may have been completely replaced by features integrated ...
UPDATE 11/18: inaequitas reminds us that in order to star messages on your iPhone, simply move the message the starred items directory.
UPDATE 10/26: RayL re-confirms the advantage of mapping your client-side Sent, Drafts, & Trash with server-side Gmail labels - no duplicate labels created in Gmail by your email client(s). Experiment with Gmail IMAP setup; if necessary reference the Google Group thread below.
UPDATE 10/25: If you start seeing duplicates, check this Google Group thread. Google may have made updates to Gmail IMAP access. YMMV.
The latest news on the street is that Google is slowly rolling out a much anticipated feature - IMAP support. If you point your browser to Gmail ...
UPDATE 09/06: Steve Jobs posts an open letter confirming that early iPhone adopters will receive a $100 voucher to be used at the Apple Store.
September 5th, Apple announces new iPod hardware - which iPod are you? Not surprising considering early rumors spoke of such updates weeks ago. What was not expected was the significant price-drop for the hottest selling smartphone last month [July 2007], the Apple iPhone. How significant of a price-drop? $200. As an early [iPhone] adopter, I was a little flustered with the news.
A few thoughts that came to mind after reading the news:
As Apple's hottest selling device, the iPod has never had as significant of a ...
Jason was kind enough to inform me that Media Temple customers with an iPhone in their back pocket now have quick access to their accounts with the new iPhone "friendly" AccountCenter interface! Media Temple customers can now manage their hosted site(s) from a sleeker, faster, and more convenient interface.
Website administrators now have convenient access to the following features from their iPhone mobile web browser:
Adding a new domain (using an existing card on file or using a new card)

Support request, ticket submit
Bill payment (using an existing card on file or using a new card)
Password management - AccountCenter / Email & FTP

Before delving into my personal thoughts concerning the recently released Apple iPhone, I must apologize for any preconceived notions - expressed via 5thirtyone.com, through IM or email, or verbally [during lunch / coffee breaks] - that the iPhone would have a difficult time standing up against the Nokia N95 or BlackBerry devices. Silly me. Apple, the company that prides itself in beautiful / functional hardware had to know exactly what they were doing.
Having admitting that my iPhone had already arrived (Nokia N95), I now sit here, eating my words as I compose an ad hoc review of the device. Maybe an actual physical keyboard isn't necessary for mobile communication?
The ...
For anyone who owns more than one Apple computer, the thought of controlling two or more machines at the same time is surely something many people think of. Despite any previous assumptions you may have had, the steps necessary to control two or more Apple computers [at the same time] is quite simple and easily completed by anyone willing and able to follow a few simple directions. The challenge now is not a question of "How could I possibly setup and control multiple machines - for free?" Rather, the challenge is deciding whether or not you need 1) simple "local" control (main desktop + a secondary computer on the same ...
Anyone who has followed my hardware track record, articles, and Tweets will surely know that when last Tuesday came and went without an update announcement along the lines of 'The 12" PowerBook grown up, meet the 12.1" MacBook Pro', I was sorely disappointed. In fact, not too long ago, I even went so far as to sell my 15" MacBook Pro in hopes of replacing the notebook with a 12" widescreen variant. To this day, I still consider the 12" PowerBook G4 one of the best computers manufactured by Apple. Despite that fact that current Intel-powered machines are valuable beyond belief - essentially serving as two computers in one (OS ...
Although I have thoroughly enjoyed the Apple TV over the past few days, I raise an eyebrow when I think about Apple's reasoning for dismissing the idea of Parental Controls for streaming video content. Due to the number of iTunes enabled computers on my home network, and the paltry hardrive included with the Apple TV, streaming content was the ideal route as opposed to actual syncing [with a single computer].
Photoshopped mock-up of Parental Controls for Streaming Content - iTunes
The iTunes Preferences menu offers a Parental section which provides content filtering for purchasing content from the iTunes Music Store, why not provide a similar filter for streaming content?
Of course, anyone with ...
One more excuse to be unproductive and lazy, I took home the Apple TV. Yes, that's right, I succumbed to the alluring draw of one more shiny Apple gadget. The net is full of recent reviews and I do not plan on spending much time doing the same (that would take away from entertaining myself away from the computer).
I will, however, state how ridiculously easy it is to go from shrink wrap to Apple goodness on the widescreen. Apple's simplicity and ability to integrate with an existing home network is amazing.
Remove Apple TV & remote from Styrofoam
Ignore the fact that Apple includes a manual
Connect [composite or HDMI] & power cable

Two days ago I noticed a saddening spectacle as I witnessed a dark irregular shape creep across the corner of one of my 23" Apple Cinema Displays. In stark contrast to a previous Apple service visit with ProCare membership in hand, a recent visit to the U-Village Apple Store was a complete surprise.
As stated on the Apple ProCare page, members are entitled to what is recognized as the Fast Track service:
ProCare is your ticket to priority repairs and available same-day service at the Genius Bar. Members get "Next in line, first on the bench" service on all in-store repairs. And if you have a quick technical question, just flash your ...
Image links to an actual photograph of the original receipt - Cingular Store, Redmond, WA.
Late last week I traded in my Sprint BlackBerry 8703e for a Cingular BlackBerry Pearl. I will reserve a full review / thoughts for another day. However, today I felt the urge to share this little piece of info. Earlier tonight while looking over recent receipts, I noticed this short line in the middle of the transaction. In plain view is the string "iPhone for DEREK PUNSALAN" above the 2 yr. service agreement discount. Cingular, I didn't order an iPhone, but are you hinting [with this glitch] at a $150 discount for 2 yr. service agreements ...
Creating & managing screenshots on OS X may not garner the same type of attention had the topic been something more along the lines of creating a web development environment on OS X, cloning a hardrive, or improving your iChat experience. Regardless, those that do collect and amass a large collection of images can attest to the fact that such collections can 1) be tedious, 2) get quite unorganized, or 3) utilize more disk space than they should. All of these issues are easily resolved with a few simple techniques.
Capturing basic screenshots
Thankfully, OS X offers a number of options which allow a user to capture both entire screens and specifc ...
Continuing the "Breathe new life into OS X" series including Breathe new life into OS X Safari & Breathe new life into OS X iChat, our focus will be on Apple's Front Row application. Out of the box, Front Row taps into your current media library composed of iTunes albums, movies, television shows, iPhoto albums, and DVDs. Enjoy your multimedia library from the comfort of your couch or bed using the included Front Row remote. Perfect right? Nothing more to ask for. Right? Wrong.
The convenience offered by Apple's Front Row application dissipates once users begin to push the limitations of the software. Where does the convenience of Front Row begin ...
What do current 1st generation iPod Nano [$99 refurbs] owners receive when they opt to upgrade to the newer 2nd generation brushed aluminum equivalents? They receive a number of upgrades through a much sleeker footprint / body, brighter screen, redesigned earphones, and an incredible 24 hour [claimed] battery life. Amazing right? All of that for a mere $149 2GB, $199 (4GB), and $249 (8GB) respectively. Most interesting is Apple's continued exploitation of anything black that it may pass through the glass doors. Black MacBook, black Nano, each with a significant price difference over more livelier colors.
Surprisingly, the premium on black Nano's won't matter. People will pay for the matte black ...
After two consecutive top shell replacements on the MacBook to alleviate the aesthetic issue(s) presented due to discoloration on select Rev. A MacBook's (white), I am unfortunate enough to experience an altogether new problem concerning - presumably - the logic board.
After hearing news from a fellow 9ruler concerning random shutdowns, I laid my discoloration woes at bay. A discolored MacBook isn't so bad. At least I'm not experiencing random shutdowns.
Unfortunately, I may have very well jinxed myself. Roughly two hours ago, while working on a mockup for an active project & structural markup for an additional site, my MacBook shut down completely. After the momentary shock realizing ...
It's been a little less than a week since I managed to procure one of Apple's latest, the wireless Mighty Mouse. After having spent the last couple days with it, I've discovered a few pros and cons concerning the odd looking pill sitting beside me on my desktop.
Pros
Wireless. No point in feeling restrained by a single mouse wire.
Have access to both USB ports on an Apple notebook.
A strange white pill as desktop decoration to the untrained eye.
Control movies from across the room if you've managed to lose your Front Row controller.
Cons
Random bug which renders the right-click functionality useless unless the bluetooth on the computer is restarted. Follow the support ...
