WordPress Grid Focus

After much personal debate and the incident concerning the WP China Forums, I’ve decided to release the WordPress Grid Focus as a "theme". The decision was made after receiving a considerable number of emails requesting that a variant of the theme be made available for public use. I’m not expecting as much fanfare as the October Special theme which was based off of a pink October Breast Cancer Awareness month theme, but I do hope it may serve as a platform for others to build off of.

I stripped out a few personal bits, removed some ad placement blocks, and allowed the title and tagline to be edited from the WordPress administrative panel. Feel free to visit the project page to find the download as well as a few details concerning the theme. Please do not email me directly for support related questions. Instead, use the Discussion Forum so that others – including myself – can track and contribute to topics.

Hi there, I have recently downloaded your theme and am currently trying to edit it to best suit my website, just wondering how does one add those additional divs like you have underneath your post eg “view tutorials” and then how it has the two seperate columns within itself.

This is a great theme, however I wanted to change the white background into a different color, how do I do that?

    Thanks.

Wow. This is nice. Expecting more nice themes!:)

  4. Hi Derek, just wanted to say thanks for making this amazing theme available to the public!

I recently redesigned my website and have based its design on your Grid Focus theme. I don’t actually use Wordpress — so I did my design completely from scratch — but since it’s very close to your theme, I’ve credited you for it (the bottom of the page says that the design is “inspired” by Grid Focus).

    Thanks once again.

    Hi Derek,

I am new to Wordpress and themes. I am using your theme which I like a lot.., however, how can i map the “link” categories on the top to actual pages in wordpress? For example.., the second top category is named “link”. I would like that one to be named something else and also map to a page. So the question is how I can “connect” wordpress with the “link” category.

Nice one Derek – I’ve just used this theme (with a fair bit of hackery) on my new site.

    Thanks.

The update for this theme is going out today. Compatible with both 2.6 or 2.7. I highly recommend upgrading to 2.7 for the threaded comments.

    i am loving this theme.

i noticed the discussion forum is gone and was wondering how i can have the drop down under the browse nav link (that flows down in blue and shows the categories) for other links that do not necessarily link categories, but instead other pages?

    Hi all,

I just figured out how to add more links to the top menu so I thought I’d post it here. It might not be the way to do it, but then again, I’m not a programmer at all.

When you go to the theme editor and click on navigation.strip.php you can add:

    AboutWho am I

just before the search string. That will add an extra menu item.
You then add a new page as normal and make sure that the permalink is the same as the http://www.yoursite.com/about/ in the line you just typed.

That did it for me. It works… if anyone has a better solution let me know, but for me as a programming-idiot this seems quite an alright solution.

    All the best!
    david.

  11. david says:

ow damn… how do I add html/php in the text???

  12. david says:

ah this should do it I hope… so this is the code you need to add (in your own flavour ofcourse) in the navigation.strip.php just before the search string:

    <li><a href="http://www.thinkleft.nl/about/" title="About me">About<br /><span>Who am I</span></a></li>

This theme is awesome. I’m using it as the basis for my design of a college fellowship website at Cal. Even though I’ve made heavy modifications to both front-end and back-end, I always give credit where credit is due. Thanks again!
