I’m proud to announce a little weekend project that UNEASYsilence has been working on over the past few weeks. In an attempt to reinvigorate the classic After Dark screensavers, UNEAYsilence has compiled a Flying Toasters screensavers clone from way back when computer geeks wore pocket protectors, Windows was the de facto operating system, and cool computers were beige.

We’ve compiled versions for both Windows & OS X. Preferential treatment for OS X users who will enjoy additional preferences for toggling between the classic black & white and color versions, number of flying objects, and frequency / speed at which objects glide across your screen. Go ahead, go retro and download ToasterClone [announcement] for Windows or OS X. Thank Mark Rickert for his expertise schooling Dan & myself. [Digg ToasterClone]

  1. Quite cool!

  2. Haha, well done. I remember I was in elementary school and a friend had a Mac with AfterDark. I was captivated by the Mac and never really owned one until a few months ago.

  3. I needed another good looking screensaver. Brillian, as always :)

I really love the way you do your screenshots, how did you do that?

Screenshots are you plain vanilla type rotated in Photoshop before uploading.

  6. dingyi: I’ve created a short screencast covering some techniques for making snazzy screenshots.

  7. Flying Toasters! Now that is going back.

    How very cool.

Flying toasters is fine, but the “After Dark” module I really loved was “Nonsense.” Has anyone recreated that, either as a screensaver or an app?

  9. Larry Hicks

My wife and I agree with Richard, “Nonsense” was always a great source of fun and stress relief — especially when you added a few names and objects. Any chance of that one being recreated?

  10. That’s definitely something I’ll pass along to the team to see if it’s possible.
