Every now and then during moments of free time, I stop to peruse some of the incoming referrals from sites utilizing one of the following WordPress themes: Foliage, Foliage Mod, or 5ThirtyOne V2.

The above sites, in one way, shape, or form, utilize 5ThirtyOne releases as a base from which to build upon. I’ve collected 3 which recently caught my attention. A task in itself considering combined downloads from 5ThirtyOne servers recently clipped the 15,000 mark (not including download figures from sites such as WordPress Theme Viewer).

Worry not if your site was not mentioned above. I visit each and every site which returns an incoming link from a themes footer. I can not describe what a challenge it was to browse through incoming links - let alone decide which sites to feature. Drop a comment if you think I’ve missed your customizations.

  1. Interesting, how did you tailor your themes to ‘phone home’? No criticism, just wondering what kind of technique you are using to track incoming referrals, or i.o.w. how are those incoming referrals generated?

On a related note, I’m not using one of your themes as a base, but I took some of your design elements as inspiration to fix some parts of my site which is K2 based.

  2. Themes are not “phoning” home. All themes include an attribute link at the footer of the theme. When a reader viewing a site with a footer link pointing towards 5thirtyone.com is clicked, a referral is logged in my Mint database. It’s nothing secretive or sly, it’s just the way the internet works.

  3. OK, I get it. I thought there was some magic such that the link didn’t even have to be clicked ;-)

    Thanks.

  4. Thanks for the plug Derek, I am glad you like my version of v2. It has proven to be a most beneficial base to work from. Thanks again.
