The Unstandard theme update with new options page

I’ll keep the announcement short and to the point. Like Grid Focus, The Unstandard WordPress theme has enjoyed its own share of success. Since the original release, I have made it a habit to spend a portion of my day following referrals from websites using the theme straight of the box, or as a foundation to build on top of. Today the theme jumps from version 1.1.6 to 1.2. A major milestone as I continue to build on the original idea of the theme. I have finally squashed a few bugs and integrated a couple new features including:

  • Larger easier to read font sizes
  • The option to select one of 4 color flavors without touching any CSS – blue (original), sherbet, lime, and licorice
  • Support for custom header logos – simply replace header.png
  • Enable or disable the lead_image when viewing a single post
  • Previously mentioned auto thumbnailing for easier photo management

This is a first pass on the Dashboard > Theme Options panel. Additional user specified features and customizable options will surely find their way into future releases. For now, feel free to download the update, see a working demo, or watch the video intro (if you haven’t already).

Hey Derek, thanks for the update! Finally managed to get a friend’s site I built using the previous Unstandard updated with your new version, quite happy with the results. I’m not sure why but this code was a lot easier to modify! Thanks again.

  2. Hi,

First, for those who asked in the past about having the same thumbnail presentation on a page than on the main frontpage, I found a (sort of) solution. I created a subdomain where before I had a page, and I set up a second WP configuration using The Unstandard. So now I have my blog on isabelleroughol.com, and my portfolio on portfolio.isabelleroughol.com, and both have cool thumbnails. I’m sure there’s a cleaner, code way to do this, but I’m not much of a coder.

Second, my questions. The Timthumb plugin works on my portfolio configuration, but not on the blog, where I have to resize images manually. I’m using the same plugins on both, and I have no idea what I may have done differently.
Also, I can embed the most complicated stuff in my posts, but simple html tags like and don’t work. Any idea how I could fix that?

Thanks a lot, and kudos Derek on a stunning, innovative theme.

Hey everyone, I’m close to finishing my site (LOOKS AWESOME WITH UNSTANDARD) but need help with category listing…

As default, when one clicks on a category, the list of posts will show up in the thumbnail fashion.

But for a particular category I need to display its sub-categories in the thumbnail fashion as well, and be able to assign a thumbnail image for each sub-category.

I have tried using but it will just list one sub-category when there are 3. You can see the effect here.

    Any advice?

I love the theme and am having a blast playing around with it and getting it to work the way I want. I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate in a lightbox feature to see the full image size? Maybe this is already possible and I haven’t figured it out yet.

    Thanks,
    ~E

I’m trying to get the lead_key image to view but it’s not working. I did everything lando did above me but no image generates. I also have wordpress 2.8.4.

I resize all the images to 593×225 but nothing happens. Let me know of any other steps I can take. Thanks.

Does anyone know how to display theunstandard-blank.png on single posts as well (if that option is enabled) when someone forgets to add the main and secondary images? I tried C&P the code on the index.php to single_showhero.php, but it didn’t work. Thanks!

    Hi Derek,
It’s a great Theme , do you planning to upgrade some other feature at this theme?
It’s a bit difficult to edit the css manually, for example I want to edit the css setting for my post font size.
    Thanks.

Derek love your work and huge fan.

I could use some quick help though , I have uploaded the new unstandard theme and tried 777 the timthumb script as well as the cache folder and it’s kinda weird.

All the pictures will showup on the main page. But if you scroll down and try to click any category then none of the pictures will show up. Please help , many thanks !

  10. alvin says:

    hi there

    thanks for the great theme

i just wanna know, is it possible to have a rollover grayscale effect on the images on the main page?

  11. alvin says:

thanks for the quick response. i came across this page before too but couldnt really or i dun even know where to start implementing it.

i downloaded the jQuery as well the css for this but i don’t know how to make it work with the images displayed in the Unstandard theme.

    Any suggestions my dear friend?

  12. rohin says:

I’m going insane , I got timthumb working and have made all script files 777.

My problem is that if I put the same url for custom fields for lead_image and secondary_image. Then the Lead will show but the secondary_image won’t.

Then if I use DIFFERENT urls for the fields then both will showup.

If anyone has any ideas I’ll be eternally greatful.

  13. rimpe says:

    Thanks for the great theme.
I have wordpress 2.8 and I cant resize images. How can i do?

  14. alvin says:

    hi

i still couldnt implement the grayscale rollover though but anyways, i just would need to check if it is IE7 compatible because i sort of re-edit a bit on it and the nav buttons is placed wrongly. Firefox is fine though

  15. portia says:

Hi, as can be seen from my site, the images don’t load up in the grey square on the main page. Kindly advice. Thanks.
