Over the past few months I’ve had a number of inquiries as to when I would get around to posting the code for my MySpace DIV overlay. With a little inspiration from Kristin to make updates, I’ve finally decided to post the code here. Towards the end of this post you’ll find the necessary files (zipped for your convenience) as well as directions and comments. Please take the time to read through the post in its entirety.
The dark minimal overlay [view the test account on MySpace] is a unsupported MySpace DIV overlay created and distributed by myself. The MySpace DIV CSS and HTML are released under Creative Commons. Please respect any modifications made by fellow MySpace members by not ripping personal images or changes without consent. Please give credit where credit is due.
Download
Reference the installation instructions as well as the FAQ below before activating the overlay in your profile. This overlay will cover the entire default MySpace profile meaning that blog post announcements and comments are hidden from view.
Updates
- Rey informed me that MySpace has updated the post comment action string. The download has been updated. Thew new post action string looks like this:
<form method="post"
action="http://comments.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.ConfirmComment">For those that may have downloaded the previous distribution of the overlay, please update your HTML markup to reflect the changes.
Installing
- Read through this page in its entirety. Also feel free to reference part one, two, three, and four. I can guarantee there is a 98% chance your question is answered.
- Download the above zipped package and unzip on your desktop.
- Contained within the folder are three text files. Read the included README file for instructions on saving the code to your profile(s).
- Reference the FAQ and comments before submitting requests for help.
If by chance you run into difficulty saving changes to your profile because of a missing ’submit’ button, edit your profile in ‘Safe Mode’.
Questions
- Will this profile look the same in IE?: I have made every effort to make sure that this profile loads as it should in its default form in Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox, and Safari. If the profile does not look as it should for you, continue reading. Visit the test account on MySpace to get a better idea of what this DIV overlay does.
- The old profile is sticking out the sides! Help?: If you find that the default profile is showing through behind the overlay, delete any comments with wide images.
- How do you add reflections below images?: The reflections are nothing more than faux reflections created within Photoshop. Please search Google for Photoshop reflections tutorials.
- How do I get an animated profile image?: The animated image is an animated GIF. Please reference Google for the appropriate tutorials. Recommended software: Adobe Imageready.
- My comments are gone! How do I get them back?: As stated earlier, the overlay is completely separate from the default profile. As such, comments are hidden from view. If you wish to display comments in a scrollable DIV, please check Google for the appropriate overlay comments code.
- How do I get my blog posts and comments to show?: The overlay download is completely separated from the default MySpace profile. Understand that everything will need to be hard coded into your layout.
